Artist Statement
When I look at my pieces, I see stability; Stability acting as a facade, disregarding the chaos that may ensue within in the interior. This push and pull between order, strength and chaos has taken a forefront in my work, creating an illusion of what is happening behind these hollow constructed forms. Being drawn to sharp angles, clean shapes and lines, the use of minimalist architecture as a reference for my work has introduced these simplistic geometric shapes and cube forms. Creating these solid structures and juxtaposing them with the hidden turmoil in the cubes keeps the viewer, as well as myself, reminded that even though something may look stable on the outside, the inside may remain cracked and rough or marred by the wear and tear of time and experiences.
The use of concrete within my work has become a visual experience for the observer in order to emphasize this hectic and often broken interior space. This difference in the texture and visual language of the concrete contrasts the sterling silver in a way in which questions will arise and the interaction between the piece and the viewer will become more involved.
